The 2017 MWHL Cup Playoffs are set to begin with divisional playoffs featuring the top teams from the Sierra and Rocky divisions. The winners will advance to the MWHL Cup Finals at the end of April.
The Sierra Division playoff will begin at 7:00 PM on April 7 when Norcal Ice Raiders host Arizona Outlaws in game one of their best of three games series at Vacaville Ice Sports.
Norcal finished on top of the Sierra Division. They are also the league’s top seed this year after finishing with a 9-2-1 record and a points percentage of .792 to win the Commissioner’s Cup as the MWHL Regular Season Champions.
Arizona finished second overall at 10-3 with a .796 points percentage. The teams split their season series with each team sweeping at home.
Game two will be at 7:45 PM on April 8 and game three will be at 8:00 PM on April 9 if necessary. All three games will be played at Vacaville Ice Sports.
In the Rocky Division, Vail Yeti will host Breckenridge Vipers in game one of their best of three game series at 7:45 PM on April 21 at Dobson Arena.
Vail finished with a league record of 10-3 and points percentage of .796, tying Arizona for second best in the league overall. The Yeti had an overall record of 16-7-4 including non-league games.
Breckenridge enters the playoffs with the league’s fifth best record at 7-6 and a .538 points percentage. Last year’s MWHL Cup runners-up finished second in the Rocky Division, earning them the nod ahead of defending MWHL Cup Champions San Diego who finished with a better record, but came in third in the Sierra Division.
Game two of the Rocky Division series will be at Stephen C. West Arena in Breckenridge on April 15 at 8:00 PM. Game three if necessary will be back at Dobson Arena in Vail at 5:00 PM on April 21.
