Las Vegas Wolves mascot

Back Fur More

The Las Vegas Wolves announced the return of their wolf mascot for the 2016-17 season. The furry mascot was a fan favorite among children and adults alike during the club’s previous MWHL seasons. With the return of the Las Vegas Wolves to the league, the wolf mascot will once again welcome fans and prowl the arena during Wolves games in the MWHL.

The Las Vegas Wolf was the first official mascot in the MWHL, debuting in 2012. The Vail Yeti followed in 2014 with their abominable snowman mascot. This year the San Diego Skates will introduce a stingray mascot.

Fans are encouraged to meet the wolf and pose for pictures during games. The team will post a gallery of pictures featuring fans and the mascot on the team website.

Las Vegas Wolves

Wolves Prowl Again

The Las Vegas Wolves will bring hockey back to Las Vegas in 2016 as they rejoin the Mountain West Hockey League (MWHL.net.) Fans waiting for the debut of the city’s NHL franchise can get a hockey fix by watching the Wolves take on Senior A minor league opponents in the MWHL’s Sierra Division. The Wolves were charter members of the MWHL starting in 2012, but took a hiatus last season.

Veteran MWHL player Matt Sablan is helping re-establish the Wolves. Sablan started his MWHL career with the Wolves then played for the Orange County Checkers before joining the San Diego Skates. “Las Vegas had a great history with the MWHL, reaching the MWHL Cup Finals twice and drawing lots of fans along the way. But support dwindled in their last season. Now there is a new generation of players who want to rekindle the excitement for hockey in Las Vegas,” said Sablan.

The Skates will open their season in Escondido, CA on November 19 against the MWHL Cup Champion San Diego Skates. The Wolves will play home games at Sobe Arena located inside Fiesta Rancho Hotel Casino.
